To celebrate Jigs’ 30th year on earth, we trooped to Tagaytay to visit the famous Sonya’s Garden and People’s Park in the Sky.

We were billeted at Sunrise Holiday Mansion, a quiet two-building hotel tucked in the peaceful Alfonso community in Cavite. The hotel looked like a humble lodge from its location amid verdant grassland and simplistic, no-fuss exterior.

But modest, it wasn’t. The squeaky clean hotel lobby and interiors had an interesting, modern appeal and rooms were well-pointed. A pool and jacuzzi, while medium in size, were aesthetically inviting and well-maintained at all times. An in-house resto, a gym, and huge conference center rested in near proximity, offering an unobtrusive view of the landscaped pool area.

The Deluxe Suite where we stayed exuded a quaint, laid back charm (P2,900/night).  The least expensive of their accommodations, the room was value for money. Sheets were crisp and clean, and there was ample room to move around.

It was fully stocked with the essentials and more: satellite TV, wooden cabinets, desks and coffee tables, A/C, hot and cold shower, a functional kitchen complete with a microwave oven, coffee maker and utensils, plus a lovely balcony where guests can drink cold beer during fog-ridden nights (and we did just that during our last day).

We spent Day 1 on swimming (hard to do at 20 degrees, I must admit), eating at our favorite fastfood joint in Tagaytay, Mushroomburger, and having beer at Dencio’s.

Happy Birthday!
