The long Holy Weekend. What could ever be more relaxing than 4 straight days of sober fun, closed malls, and pescetarian diet?

For most of us Filipinos, we take this opportunity to escape the deafening quietude by hitting nearby beaches and resorts. Before I got married, one of those resorts was Splash Mountain Resort along Calamba Highway in Laguna (Crystal Spring Resort was also a favorite of ours but it closed down well before I got married).

Note: That time dates back to polaroids, so pardon the low-res pics.

Like most, if not, all resorts in Calamba, Splash Mountain features a variety of man-made pools with natural spring water sourced from nearby Mount Makiling. There used to be about 4 or 5. After expansion, there are now 19.

The resort comes off as unpretentious though pretty much equipped with the essentials and nice-to-have’s: conference rooms, kiddie and adult slides, open cottages and shower areas, great food, clean hotel rooms and restaurants. The pools are clean and big enough, and the crowd is more or less, hmm, decent.

What I love above all is the lush scenery surrounding the pool areas. The place seems to have been built off a mountain on the road side, and the trees are still intact, preserved as if a mountain wedge is there.

The rates are very reasonable, too. Below a hundred per head – if I’m not mistaken – for day trippers, plus P400 or so for open cottages. For 19 pools, that ain’t so bad 🙂

How to get there (From the Splash Mountain website):

Public Transportation

Going to Los Baños is easy even if you don’t have a car with you. For those who want to commute, you can ride a bus bound for Sta. Cruz, Laguna. This will pass by Los Baños, just tell the bus conductor to drop you off at Splash Mountain. Splash, Suites and Oasis Hotel are located at Splash Mountain resort complex.
If you are coming from Quezon City, aircon buses are available at Cubao, along EDSA corner Aurora Boulevard. HM Tranport leaves at 3:30 am daily from Cubao to Sta. Cruz via Los Baños and buses depart every 15 minutes until 10 pm. Going home from Los Baños, you can wait for buses bound for Cubao at the highway in front of Splash Mountain. The last trip for buses coming from Sta. Cruz is at 8:00 pm.
For those coming from Manila, aircon buses bound for Sta. Cruz are available at JAMand Tritran bus terminals at LRT station, Buendia. First trip is also at 3:30 am and buses also depart every 15 minutes.

Driving From Manila

If you have your own car or vehicle, Los Baños is just 45 km. south of Manila or less than two hours drive from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport. Driving towards the South Luzon Expressway take the Calamba exit and take directions towards Los Baños. From Calamba, Splash Mountain is located on the left-hand side of the road 1km. after the Los Baños-Calamba boundary. You won’t miss the billboards, the huge facade and spacious parking area. Another 2 km. is the town proper of Los Baños where City of Springs is located.
