Pyro Fever!

Sparks flew as the 3rd Philippine International Pyromusical Competition/Pyropalooza kicked off last Saturday night at the SM Mall of Asia with a showdown between South Korea and Malta, plus a special guest performance by American pop sensation David Archuleta.

The Pyromusical Competition is an SM-organized event that combines the splendor of fireworks and enchanting music. The World Pyrolympics Competition on the other hand, which started in 2005, is an annual competition that showcases fireworks exhibitions from competing countries around the globe. The Philippines hosted this international event four times (2005, 2007, 2008, and 2009, with the 2009 event being moved to early 2010), before the production was moved to foreign territory.

Now, I haven’t attended any of the the Pyromusical events, although I was able to witness the 2007 and 2010 Pyrolympics Competition at the SM Mall of Asia open grounds and at The Fort, respectively. The experience is surreal, seeing multitudes of pulse-quickening aerial fireworks in extreme close up.

I personally prefer the view better at MOA as there were no obstructions and buildings in the horizon, compared to the one in The Fort where chances of finding a clear view of the entire show is like a needle in a haystack.

I’m pretty sure, though, that the 2012 Pyromusical Competition exhibitions are just as stunning as those in the Pyrolympics. If you weren’t able to catch the opening event yesterday, fret not.
