A day after the voting deadline for the New 7 Wonders of Nature ended, Swiss organization New7Wonders announces the Philippines’ very own Puerto Princesa Underground River as among the top seven to make the cut!
Not surprised, though. Being the “texting capital” of the world, the Philippines has always been extremely intent and rabid on making our bets win their through SMS and online votations. Just look at the majority of the Miss Photogenic winners in global beauty pageants throughout the years. *winks*
Beating popular bets such as Italy’s Mount Vesuvius, the USA’s Grand Canyon and Ecuador’s Galapagos Islands, PPUR emerged as one of the provisional New Seven Wonders of Nature based on the organization’s first tally of votes held last November 11. Also included in the roster are South America’s Amazon River, Vietnam’s Halong Bay, Argentina’s Iguazu Falls, South Korea’s Jeju Island, Indonesia’s Komodo National Park and South Africa’s Table Mountain.
As the results are provisional, there may still be changes between the first count and the final results. Confirmation of the final winners will be announced on early 2012.
Whether or not the the Underground River does it make it to the final cut, this news already bring insurmountable pride and joy to millions of us Filipinos around the world.
Mabuhay ang Pilipinas!
