Tummies bloated from a hearty complimentary buffet at The Food Club, we
headed straight to the opposite end of the road into a complex teeming with
yuppies and families, all to dine and drink. A few steps to the left is the
recently opened Gravity Bar (December 6), which is managed and owned by the same ones
spearheading The Food Club.
At 8 pm, the bar was still empty, lending me the impression that perhaps, they closed it for us bloggers (a little assuming, yes. Hah!). Chats with the
friendly bartenders and manager revealed though that guests don’t start pouring
in till around 10pm. Wednesdays through Saturdays are especially hectic. Wednesdays most especially, with Mocha Uson performing at the open stage fronting the bar. It’s standing room only with guests – males, mostly – fighting for space just to see Mocha grind her stuff.
Us girls (and two boys) were served a looong line of their signature cocktails to sample. I am usually not fond of cocktails; too fancy for a beer gal like me. But Gravity Bar’s are as sassy as their joint. These P225 beverages are a mix of yummy colors, quirk and catchy names, and a smooth and light taste that drips slowly into your throat down to your veins.
Frozen Margarita
A fruity mix of tequila, triple sec, lemon, plus your choice of fruit – orange, strawberry, or mango – swirled in crushed ice. Fun and light – like slurping a Slurpee.
Mudslide Vodka Cocktail
My favorite of the bunch, Gravity Bar’s Mudslide is a light, chocolatey and smooth mixture of finely crushed ice, Baileys and Kahlua. It’s so smooth you’ll think you’re gulping down ice cream.
Gravity Mojito
May be more fitting for the boys. Minty and has a strong and distinct rum flavor, what with the combination of white rum at the bottom and dark rum on top. Sandwiched in between is a sweet and sour mix of sparkling water and lime.
Sex on the Beach
My second favorite. Fruity like the Frozen Margarita, but more enjoyable and easier to swallow. Contains drops of vodka mixed with cranberry and peach.
Miami Vice
Part pina colada and part strawberry, this blue-and-red poison reminds one of bubblegum and pineapple with every slurp and swallow.
What makes Gravity Bar different? For one, service is more…personal. The bartenders and manager are attentive and friendly, but not overly so that you’d get annoyed. They welcome questions and answer in more than two words.
The bar is capacious and hip. By hip, I mean swell R&B and trance music, impressive laser lights and a whole roster of affordable international drinks (shooters, cocktails, mixers and hard ones) to get you crazy drunk. Not to mention a bowl of free chicharon or nuts for every San Mig bucket (P300 for 6 bottles).
But booze and a rockin’ modern ambiance aside, is Gravity Bar worth visiting even by families with kids? In some aspects, it is. There’s a host of flavors to delight in. There’s pizza and finger food selections, ten or more for each. For the super starving, you have noodles, sizzling and grilled meats, and house specialties like Crispy Pata to choose from. Inside it’s safe for kids i.e. strictly no smoking room (guests may do that at Gravity’s al fresco tables outside).

Sometimes the mom in me kicks in and thinks I’m quite too old for all that loud, thumping dance music and fancy booze, but ya know, that one night, Gravity Bar reminded me how fun and silly it is to be young again. Could offer the same experience for you, folks!
