Disclaimer: We did not pay for our meals. But I am not fond of ass-kissing either. Just sayin’.

When the folks at Big Better Burgers discovered our pleasant experience at the BBB SM North Edsa branch, they were so delighted that they invited us over to dine once more so we could try the rest of the menu. We insisted on paying, but they insisted it is a thank you.

At once, we were handed the list by gracious servers. I say this both as a second-time customer and and a discreet on-looker to others around: They were attentive yet quite reserved, quick but not annoyingly eager to please. These were traits that were there even we’ve gone as paying customers months ago.

We were served smoking hot fried potato wedges as we waited for our orders (P65 for a small plate), the unpeeled skin still crackling in its thin, earthy coat, and the fried wedges soft and yummy just like the first time.

There was an extra wait for the husband’s Double Dare with Cheese (P209) and my Teriyaki Rice Meal (P115), but I prefer that than being served first over other waiting customers just because I am a blogger.  Or being served fast with cold, rubbery food. Justice always comes first.

Towering at 6 inches, the Double Dare with Cheese is an eye-popping giant with its soft, grilled buns, quickmelt cheese sandwiched between two 1/3-pound grilled real beef patties, lettuce, mayo and fresh tomato slices. Note the stress in real

Sinking your teeth into that glorious stack-o-bun is orgasmic, if I should put it lightly. The cheddar cheese light yet delectable, the veggies fresh, and the beef, surprisingly clean and tasteful at the same time. In fact, a bite forces out some watery juice out of the meat, not grease. I don’t get that quite a lot with other burgers.

I didn’t expect a lot in terms of the Teriyaki rice meal, firstly because I am not fond of sweetened sauces. If it weren’t for Jigs’ request, I would have ordered something else, but glad I didn’t. There’s essentially no difference in terms of the patty they use here (and I presume on all their rice dishes), and the ones they use on the burger – grilled, very plump and juicy. I just wish though they had grilled it less as the patty was a bit tougher than that in the burger. But other than that, the meal itself was very good. The sauce was subtle, not too sweet, and the shiitake mushrooms were so fresh. Perhaps one of the few Teriyaki meals that have piqued my interest in a very long time.

Oh, and did I mention, the rice was ginormous? Could feed a person-and-a-half.

Please try the sundaes as well. They’re very good for the summer,” they said. Not that they need to say that; this mom rarely ever leaves without dessert! The cafe espresso wasn’t available so we got the only other sundae on the menu which was the cheese parmesan sundae (P85). It came in a queer shot glass, its pale yellow cream, smooth and slowly melting, crowned with devilish whipped cream and crumbs of premium parmesan. Light, novel and downright classy. Truly made my day, that ice cream.

Thank you BBB for the 3 extra pounds that day. It was a good 3 pounds.
