This morning, I woke up with a rather stranger and inexplicable urge to adopt a pet – either a dog or a cat from an impound or shelter. Then, I see on my Facebook feeds, a call to save 20 dogs from being euthanized by the Quezon City Impounding Center tomorrow, December 6 at 12 noon.

Now we have already given away our dogs and sold our Persians. All of them, since we are no longer capable of caring for them as efficiently as we used to before having Lia. But this is really heartbreaking, and I am contemplating whether to adopt or foster.

I am reposting the whole post from When In Manila:

“I am reposting the call for help posted by the Pinoy Dog Whisperer. There are 20 dogs on death row in the QC dog pound. Animal welfare groups including the Philippine Animal Lovers Society are working together to get enough people interested to foster the animals. A Facebook group was created so those interested to help can pool their resources. Some have offered to sponsor but need transportation for the dogs. Others have offered to sponsor medical treatment for the dogs. Some of the dogs still have collars and may have owners looking for them.

Help save the 20 dogs on “death row” in QC Pound

Animal welfare advocates have bought one week for the dogs, but if the dogs are not fostered by 11:59am on Friday, 6 December, the QC Pound will euthanize the dogs.
Here is the post from the Pinoy Dog Whisperer:
If you’re REALLY interested to foster, adopt, donate cages, offer transportation, chip in to cover medical expenses and maintenance, please join Efforts to save the 20 dogs on “death row”. There is obviously an urgent need to take action since we only have less than a week to save these dogs. So please join the group to find out how you can help.
PLEASE SHARE. THANK YOU!
[YOUR ATTENTION PLEASE] Dogs scheduled to be euthanized by FRIDAY 11:59AM! PLEASE SHARE!
These are the dogs we saved from the QC Dog Pound. Although, we were able to buy them some time, we still need to place them in good homes. Hopefully, we didn’t just delay the inevitable.
Here’s the problem. We don’t have enough information regarding each dog’s condition. We were not allowed to see them since the pound is off-limits to the public unless we secure a permit. This picture was given by the pound so we can show them to anyone who would like to adopt. Right now, all we can tell you is that 20 dogs need our help. Otherwise, they will be euthanized this coming Friday at noon.
If you would like to adopt, please call QC Veterinarian’s Office at 988-4242 loc 8036.

I believe the organizers are at the Pendragon Clinic at Diliman, Quezon City as of the moment, and all people who are serious in adopting these dogs can go and sign an adoption paper for them to be saved. There are currently  13 SEVEN dogs left to be saved as of current time, and I think at least half of those have potential adopting individuals. So that means there are still 5, 7 left to be adopted.  (UPDATE: One has passed away at the pound due to distemper, and the 12 others have been adopted already through the group’s efforts).

Individuals who want to adopt WILL BE ASSISTED FINANCIALLY if they’re unable to do so on their own, and if the dog needs training, HE WILL BE TRAINED BY THE PINOY DOG WHISPERER FOR FREE. Good enough a deal, ain’t it?

If you can’t adopt, you can foster and the organizers will help raise funds for boarding, medical expenses, food and others. If not, you can also help by giving even used cages for transport of the dogs to adopters (medium sized cages are needed), as some of them go as far as Zambales and Angeles.

LATEST UPDATE: Since there are still 7 dogs remaining to be fostered/ adopted and there are only about 11 hours as of writing to save them, it became the consensus within the group (you can join us here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/419017431558724/) that pledges may be the best way to go now. You can instead pledge for P150 per dog/ day (Total of P4,500 a month) or if you can’t, P75 or P50 at a minimum for the boarding of one dog. The rest will be shared by other individuals with the same pledge, just to be able to try to bargain wit the pound and save all 7 by tomorrow. As of now, there are already pledges for 7 dogs, and the group still needs a lot. Expenses for all dogs will go down to about half a million, including boarding, food and medical expenses. Pledges can be deposited either weekly or bimonthly through Desiree Carlos’ BDO account.

They also need a van to transport the dogs today and tomorrow from the pound to the clinic. The van they were using broke down. Please contact Desiree Carlos at 0917-8991013 if you have a van to spare.

They need people who can offer boarding for half of the adopted dogs for the meantime since the clinic is already full.

They need continual funds for the medical expenses and food of those dogs (since only the lodging is accounted for for now, because of the pledges) that have been adopted but have to be treated for illnesses and be boarded for the mean time at Pendragon Clinic before finally going home to their adopters. Any amount will  be appreciated.

Please, please share.
