There are currently more than a couple of hot posts on my Facebook newsfeed about some Pinoys and otherwise’s foul remarks on the net praising divine intervention for wiping out a significant population of the Philippines during the recent Super Typhoon Haiyan/ Yolanda. They are viral, alright, but I would rather focus on things I can do that will benefit the distressed than give distasteful behavior mileage.
As one mentor says, “Huwag kang gumawa ng sariling bagyo. Peace out.”
Ditto. So, lemme just share with you what we hope to do. The husband and his biker friends have organized a no-registration-fee-bike for a cause donation drive this coming 17th for the Yolanda victims in Tacloban City and Leyte. They will be waiting from 6 am to 8 am at the Caypombo Municipal Hall in Sta. Maria, Bulacan for donations of any kind (though urgently needed are clean, fresh water; canned goods; and rice). At 8 am, they will take their bikes – together with a truck or two – up to LBC Marilao the Philippine Red Cross Malolos Chapter to donate whatever goods they amass.
Of course, if you can’t go for the ride, your donations will be more than enough. We hope that you can share some of your used clothes, toys and food for our fellow Pinoys in this grim time of sorrow. Let’s show them what true bayanihan is. As they say, one act of random kindness to create a ripple.
This event is included in Rappler’s list of relief operations. Check it out here as well as other donation drives you can join in:

*UPDATE: Free lugaw and free henna tattoos courtesy of Team Katipuneros await those who will be joining the ride to Marilao.
